Today I have mainly been V4.0 (Part 1)

Just bear in mind that it can get very hot in Summer, you don’t want your legs getting baked.

And loafing around all day.

Still exploring, but take a line from Saint Calais and head south South East a couple of hundred miles. That area, minus the Loire valley obvs. Will be heading down in the motorhome next year to narrow down to a few towns.

Essentially, anything within five miles of a town like Saint Calais.

The trick is going to be the sequencing of the residency permits. Applying for the 6 month and then the ten year one appearss to be a process that rarely results in refusal if you meet the criteria. Of course there remains a small risk we could buy and then be refused a10 year residency. We may well rent for 9 months to secure the residency before we buy.

Retirement = fox piss / scent marking, magic mop, broken magic mop, 45 minutes of 3 dimensional chess - had I thrown a piece down the drain with the last bucket? Did I put that piece back on the right way around?

In other words: proper Masters of the Universe stuff.

chairing boards of examiners all day — just over a 1000 students…

Also: road-testing 4 hoses. A retiree can never have too many hoses.

Conclusion: none of them is long enough, and the furry expanding one is a flipping menace.

read that as “road-testing 4 horses”

you can get a connector to join the hotel hozelok and argos ones together. Will that be long enough?

Thank you for the thought, but I’m pretty certain that they’re all wildly incompatible with each. The “Argos” one is particularly poor.

I think I’m fine with a watering can - I have all the time in the world. Mildly chafed that I spent quite a lot of money getting the garage tap replaced yesterday, only to see it fall straight back into disuse.

Also annoyed that I went and bought a new hose gun only to find

  1. BiL’s goody bag actually had another spare under everything else (along with other strange bits of plastic whose purpose is at best opaque)
  2. I’m going to be using a watering can anyway

Grumpy old man today.

Don’t be too despondant.
You have a hose but use a watering can,
Not as bad as owning a high performance sports car and using it for a trip to the shops :grinning:

Also happy to answer questions - been here for 19 years. Bought a house, built a house… :grinning:

Ocean City! Haven’t been yet this year although Devil’s Point was nice at the weekend. Must try to get down there when we’re back from the Sussex trip.

I think most of my questions will end up being around the residency and health care process. Well be moving over as economically inactive, income will be a decent pension but we will be pre retirement In terms of state pension. I think we will need 5 years PUMA before switching to S1, backed up with additional Mutuele. Any pointers on the cost of Mutuele would be appreciated. Also need to work out of we could operate s gite if economically inactive.

Have an week trip next June to explore a few regions and nature down the house search some what.

I found this article quite enlightening, if not particularly helpful…

Yep, the amount of cover is a hot topic apparently, lots of snobbery around the percentage cover and hence the cost of consultant you can afford. All very French, most of them are not for profit though.

As with any insurance it can have it’s points of fuckery. Granted T’s employer is a cheapskate so we’re on the cheapest mutuel known to man right now, but basically if something is not covered in part by the French national system, they won’t touch any of it. Mostly that’s fine, but it’s not fun to get out of hospital to then receive a bill for 450€ for blood work you didn’t know wasn’t going to be covered.

For the most part though I like the French system, the waiting times are for the most part minuscule for seeing a GP or a consultant, and you can often see refer to a consultant if you know where the issue lies (although GPS can be handy for giving a heads up as to consultants to avoid etc).
