Today I have mainly been V5.0 (Part 3)

Have you planned what you’re doing for your trip to Bordeaux?

Not really, Claire wants to go and visit a park where she spent a day when she did inter-railling, but she’s not sure which one it is, she’d like to do a river trip, cocktails in the rooftop bar at the Intercontinental, other than that it’s all a bit adhoc.

Trying to get Claire to go more than slightly posh on food is virtually impossible, which is annoying me more than is reasonable tbh, because there are fab restaurants that don’t cost a fortune all over Bordeaux, especially around Place De La Bourse.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

This place, the regional wine council’s bar. Local wines, meats and cheeses at great prices. Stunning interior as well. Its about 50 yards from the Intercontinental

It’s most likely to be the Jardin Public that she went to, it’s certainly the biggest one in central Bordeaux: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Jardin+Public/@44.8490123,-0.5809906,795m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0xd5527df5974edf1:0x74b671d43b1857ac!8m2!3d44.8490123!4d-0.5784103!16s%2Fg%2F122tpd_g?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MTAwOS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

I’m genuinely not sure how interesting the river trip will be - there’s not really a massive amount to see from the stretches of river either side of central Bordeaux, it’s pretty featureless aside from industrial / dockyard stuff.

There’s the Wine Museum which I’ve heard very good things about. The building is incredible too: https://www.laciteduvin.com

The Bassins des Lumiéres is a very cool experience - it’s an old Nazi submarine base that they’ve repurposed (I’m guessing it’s almost impossible to demolish the actual building): https://www.bassins-lumieres.com/

You’ve also got Rue St Catherine, which is apparently the longest shopping street in Europe. You may not want to mention that bit. It’s also just quite nice to walk around the old town in general, lots of lovely buildings.

Saint Émilion is well worth a visit, it’s about 45mins from Bordeaux. You can buy half day vineyard and visit tours from the tourist office in Bordeaux.

He was a top bloke, would definitely go to the pub with him.

It does sound like you were having a budding bromance in there :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Reading up on the meaning of AFDD, RCBO, SPD etc. and what is mandatory versus what is recommended when it comes to installing a consumer unit :exploding_head:

Have no fear, it won’t be me doing to the installation :fire_engine:, tame sparks is well up on the regulations.

I’ve got to the bit of a best practice guide that has a picture of a lot of burnt out stuff with the caption “Result of DIY work by a home owner where a 10.5 kW electric shower was connected to a 45 A circuit-breaker using 2.5 mm2 cable. (Photo courtesy of British Gas)”

Anyone would think that Ohms Law isn’t taught in schools these days!
