Today I have mainly been V5.0 (Part 3)

Then Lady Di said is that it ?
I had to think for a few seconds
Oh yeah , we are 10 min from Ashby de la Zouch where Zouch Audio is , you know the place where I got my Kara’s from .
And I like the cafe culture of Ashby ..

Spoken like a true meatman.

Corrected that for you.

Looks a lovely place by the way.

Who runs it now? Years ago (30+) I used to call in on a nice chap called Mike Statham there.

I’ve no idea - don’t think I was even aware of the shop up to now.

It’s still open , walked past it the other day when we looked at another property in the area and went into Ashby for coffee

I’ve dealt with Zouch Audio in the (now fairly distant) past - probably the most easy-going and helpful dealer I ever encountered. Kinda pleased to hear they’re still going in these straitened times.

Mike was the guy I dealt with .
It must be 8 or 9 years now .
Lady Di and I had just started going out and we went to her home town of Ashby and I saw the sign for Zouch audio on the main st pointing down an alleyway. . The Kara’s were stood outside as they had just unloaded them , they had taken them as part exchange on a new pair of tannoys .
Diane fell in love with design , she didn’t care what they sounded like . We had a demo and I thought for what they were asking it was a no brainer ..Happy wife happy life …
They also replaced the tweeters in the triaxial drivers at no extra cost

Despite our trials with delivery of our bits and bobs, we had a great day having lunch with a mate of 54 years and his wife (my ex from 50 odd years ago).
Some reminiscing, plenty of discovery.
These are friends that last. Friends who can be relied upon.
Narelle was drawn into the kinship without reserve.

I feel more strongly that our decision was the correct one.

Drove to Herne Hill in that london place to pickup a Naim DAC and 555PS.

Fuck me what a nightmare, satnav said approx 1hr40 took 2.5hrs to get there and 3hrs to get back.

Fucking 20mph everywhere.

Thought the house was nice, big victorian end terrace, hmmm wonder that’s worth. Must be around £800k

2 doors down sold for £2.5 million in 2024, it’s a fucking 4bed house :scream:

Fucking hate London.

A mile from my house.

He drove to Herne Hill

What road please?

Shardcroft Avenue

Up to the top of the A3 then past Clapham common and across.

Cheers. A bit the other side of Herne Hill from us so I’m less familiar with it.

As you’ve noticed, our traffic is diabolical.

Small architectural tour by rear-engined roller skate.

Abandoned William Mitchell where an optimistic post-war housing estate once stood.

Strangeways was, err, purposeful.

The “Toast Rack” not in good shape at all. Criminal waste IMO.

Also sitting here thinking that I might be a bit peckish and realising that I skipped lunch entirely :man_facepalming:

Moar curry (Indian “street food”) required.

I was sticking to the 20 but you could see people wanting to cross the road and trying to work out how fast you’re going.

The blanket 20 just seems stupid as I was getting overtaken by fucking bikes on the straighter more open bits.

Is the that one in Collyhurst near the Lowry/Barney’s Steps. Seen it hundreds of times as kid although of course had no appreciation then, and more recently when visiting parents. Glad it got saved.

That works in both directions. Cars don’t stop at zebra crossings unless you actively step out in front of them.

Pedestrians step out in front of cars confident that they will slow down or stop :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

The 20 mph is about survival rates of collisions. 20, the pedestrian has a good chance. 30, they’re dead.
