So are my CDs, In alphabetical order in boxes in the loft.
They are also all ripped to a drive and I can select anything to play from my phone. It is quite surprising how many CDs I have that are not on streaming services.
I have a fair amount of vinyl but my laziness extends to streaming the record rather than faffing around with the physical medium.
This is due in part to the fact that quite often these days, because of waiting times at pressing plants, the digital album is released long before the vinyl. So I get into the habit of playing new releases by streaming, This means that when the vinyl does turn up (often months later) it gets added to the discogs database and filed without ever being played.
To my shame my record collection contains many sealed records.
Generally speaking in my system, vinyl replay does sound better than digital, I just donāt play records as often as I should, given the investment.
Looking for a new PC. My existing one which serves me well is not windows 11 compliant. So now I have to spend money on something I donāt want to replace a perfectly functional bit of kit and send this one to landfill. I donāt have the skills to replace the motherboard and associated bits and anyway, the cost of the motherboard, memory and CPU is not much less than a new PC which comes with a 2 to 3 year warranty. This is so tedious.I know I can buy 1 year of w10 security updates but that is not the point (even if it would be cheaper). Should this be in the CP thread?
Do you run anything that only works on Windows, if not perhaps get a refurb Mac mini M2 or even latest M4. The later is £509 on the Apple Refurbished Store for the entry level spec. Typing on one at the moment and its speedy little thing.
there are a bunch of guides online on how to install Win 11 on unsupported hardware, but it looks like MS are beginning to close some of the backdoors.
I have done it successfully on a couple of HP Z series and they are working well so far on 11
But how else are they going to sell you new stuff ?
If it helps, think of the PC makers with their kids and mortgages and lifestyles. Someone has to pay for all that. MS have picked you (and a gazillion others) to do it.
I sometimes wonder if they fund the hackers too, so thereās a constant need for security upgrades, the withdrawal of which is forcing your hand. If they donāt then they really ought to consider it.
I could try the manufacturer of my motherboard - this is a bitsa PC manufactured by a long dead local firm from a time when there were lots of local firms and has been kept going by updates but I will try. Thanks for the suggestion.
If it was a machine built by a local place, itās likely all standard components. Depending on its age, thereās a chance you only need to swap the motherboard for one thatās on the same socket series as the CPU, but with the relevant TPM chip included.
Starting another three weeks of flying solo. Although at some point I might have to drop everything and nip over to NI if it turns out that my help is needed.
At least itās better planned this time so I have a good few things lined up to keep me out of trouble, starting today with lunch in town with a couple of high rollers.
Spent a lovely evening last night by the dockyard at Devonport where there was an inside and and outside projections happening. Thanks for Matt and family for asking me to come with them. Bumped into guy and wife as well⦠Really enjoyable
