You’ll weep and be moved but uplifted. Not at all what I expected
Couldn’t watch all of this tonight as have to be up early but this is very good and also terrifying.
There have been a few on recently all telling a similar tale. I still can’t get my head round terms of millions of Americans beleive their democracy can’t be trusted, that election results are rigged despite no evidence, that Trump is a hero, that armed insurrection is a certainty.
Decent republicans being hounded out of office by conspiracy types all backed by Trump. The mid terms could well be the beginning of the end.
The tail end looked at the survivalists heading to States like Montana too make their last stand when it kicks off, there being some 3 million like minded souls, many apolitical. The locals weren’t impressed. One couple must have had fifty guns and tens of thousands of round of ammo along with a years stock of food!
Having said that they obviously haven’t watched enough zombie movies, well defended homesteads never survive, it’s a bad tactic.
The idea that their ‘armed militia’ would stand a better chance against the US military than similar militias in places like Iraq & Libya did.
The scary thing is this lot are not just fringe nutters, there’s a lot of ‘normal’ people in that survivalist category as well.
The downside to divide and conquer is the resultant friction of belief between the divided parts. Using fear as the dividing fuel, it’s easy to see how far away from harmony the US currently is. The division between North and South has been present since the abolition of slavery. All Trump had to do was rub salty fear in an old wound to enable his greedy power trip. (The same as us and Europe)
Yes, some very rich people too, including a number of silicon valley movers and shakers.
It’s far worse than that. The old republican party has been utterly decimated and replaced by people who fervently beleive the stolen election story along with others. This new breed of republicans are aiming to win offices in the mid terms that allow them to call election results at State level. Already, many Republican States are putting in place paper only ballot systems.
Having seen a few similar documentaries, I now firmly beleive that a civil war of some description is inevitable, outside of the one currently raging at the political level. I’m not saying that millions will start shooting their fellow citizens, but ignoring federal laws, offices etc, that I can see. It will only take another election defeat to tip these people over the edge.
All of the erosion is driven by the tools of division: blame & fear in the extreme, delusion / discontent / demands pretty much anything is possible. If the ties that unify are weaker than those that would tear apart, the house falls down. The values used: terminal uniqueness / nationalism / Special and ‘differentness’ are at the core of US culture. When people are powerless and the above leverage exploited, amplified to the point of belief - anything becomes justifiable.
(Germany and Nazi’s are a sobering example)
A bit of lighthearted fun.
On Blu-Ray, other formats available.
5-6 years ago wifey and I were road tripping through the southern dessert states, in the middle of nowhere, we were passed by a convoy of hummers maybe 40-50 of the behemoths, plus assorted supply trucks.
20 or so miles later we pass the entrance gate of a National Guard complex, like I say in the middlest of nowhere you can get in the USA.
Why? What the feck were they expecting?
