Straight to streaming then it is then.
It wasn’t bad by any means , but I think it would be more suited to tv.
Nearly towards end of the series. It’s pretty unsophisticated and relies heavily on the set pieces of chariot racing and gladiatorial combat as story punctuation.
However as the series progresses it becomes a visual tit-fest so there is that.
The second of the Harry Palmer films. I also have Billion Dollar Brain to watch.
A great slice of late 60’s life & style
Smurf time
First thing I said. We turned over after 1 hour although it had improved a bit when we turned back at 21:00. Does show how excellent 2012 was.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga at the local flicks. Has its faults, but still fun within the natural constraints of its genre. Actually preferred it to Fury Road…
Rinse & repeat tonight - i.e. dinner out (curry tonight), a skinful in the rather wonderful Priors Oven, and then The Bikeriders in the local flicks.
Wait for it to be free on the telly. It’s not a bad film, but despite some acting heavyweights it’s got the feel of a made-for-TV docudrama that never quite reaches the escape velocity its protagonists were presumably seeking. It’s all a bit bloodless in several senses, despite some fairly brutal moments.
Second night in a row where we were four of a total audience that didn’t get into double figures. Sadly, almost the only thing that gets bums-on-seats in Spalding are shitty covers bands
Edna O’Brien was born 3 years after my mother and grew up in the same rural Ireland.
Edna died yesterday
Alan Yentob does these programs superbly
Great stuff
Out to the proper grown-up Cinema in Peterborough - at least, proper circa 2014 - for Deadpool & Wolverine last night, via the frankly brilliant Red Lion in West Deeping, which is just about the only pub for many miles around that is worth making a detour to if you’re not actually local - it’s that good (Chef’s been Michelin-starred in another more ambitious incarnation). And they always have at least one Hopshackle ale on tap to boot. Heaven.
Well, I like ‘capeshit’, and I like immature potty-mouthed adolescent humour heavily-laced with gratuitous violence, so anything with the word ‘Deadpool’ in it is a certain winner, and this is no exception. It’s everything you’ve read in reviews - plot-free, crass, vulgar, brutal, lewd, ramshackle, questionable, ludicrous, exhausting and fucking hilarious.
It absolutely atomises the fourth wall, and is rather clearly Disney self-consciously demonstrating that it can do tasteless, profane splatterfests: The Evil Empire hits its edgelord phase… Still loved it.
When you clock ‘Welshpool’ at the end, you might just love it too, and yes, Hugh Jackman does get his tits out eventually, so there really is something for all the family…
Watched it yesterday too and loved it for all the wrong right reasons.
About halfway through six-parter “The Woman In The Wall”. Ruth Wilson is as excellent in this as she is in everything, and it’s a role that suits her well, perhaps reflecting the fact she also gets a Production credit. It’s not a groundbreaker, but certainly addresses some difficult topics well, and spins a fine old yarn along the way.
Something unshit from the BBC? Whatever next?!
Well this is shite
Yebbut more tits as the series staggers on.
Re-watching Top Boy from the beginning.
