What I'm watching (Series 2)

Adolescence part 2

Don’t watch this if you have young kids. Outstanding.

I’ve got that earmarked for when Anne is away on holiday with her pal in May. :+1:

It’s an excellent short series, some acting awards incoming i think.

The Electric State OTOH is fucking dire.

Adolescence … really good …heavy. … brilliant acting completely drawn in and affected by it

I’ve never actually seen the film, just the series.

Haha, so that’s where the sample on Front 242’s Im Rhythmus Bleiben comes from.

Intended to watch this a few weeks ago but for whatever reason it didn’t happen.

The last few nights have helped with my remedial German

Adolescence. A very contemporary subject & extremely well acted (& filmed)

I expected there to be more about the influences & bullying that creates such situations nowadays, that people of our generation have little knowledge or comprehension of. I’m glad our two boys grew up just before the intensity of social media really ramped up & I feel for the parents of today’s teenagers.

Mrs P is watching it. I just find that stuff too depressing.
Mrs P who works in child protection can’t seem to get enough of it. I’d rather live in my bubble when I comes to that.
Marley is 12 and is in her first year of secondary school and was getting bullied a month or so ago. Some horrible kid who had been at the school for all of two months and had already been suspended told Marley on a group chat to hang her self and film it.

That is really shit, I’d have been livid.

I’m not very good at handling this kind of thing, when FoL was about 11 some girls in her class got a boy to punch her in the playground and knocked her out. When the head shrugged and asked me what I thought she should do I lost all patience and grabbed a heavy ornament from her desk and threw it at the glass cabinet behind her - that got her attention!

She threatened to call the Police and I said good I’ll report the assault that the school hasn’t taken seriously.

I wasn’t allowed to go to complain about anything when she got to high school

Difficult but if she has one, take her smartphone off her. If she must have a phone, get a calls only one. And be sure to monitor and control what internet access she has at home. At least until she’s 16. She’ll thank you one day if not right now.

I was going to say, it’s probably too much to say that things are changing now, but in my son’s year group (age 12) most parents have only let their kids have basic non-smart phones. And the school makes them hand them in for the day on entrance. There’s at least a growing recognition of the dangers of having one.

That said they’re still young and its easy to control access to these things. I’ve no doubt it’ll change soon. And indeed there’s always one parent that has to let their kid have an iPhone or something - and I’m already facing calls of, ‘Why can’t I have one like blabla…?’

Interestingly the other week I was doing school rota and one of the kids with a smartphone was sat in the back watching TikTok videos. I wasn’t sure what his house number was, so I asked him and got no reply. I had to raise my voice quite loudly to get him to take his face out of his phone and respond, and then it took him a minute to understand what was going on and what I was asking him. When he left the car I pointed this out to my son and said that’s a perfect illustration of why I didn’t want him having one, and he agreed. For now at least.

My mum’s cousin was an actor in a few films but more in TV back in the 60’s & 70’s. I recall seeing him a fair bit in Z cars. I was looking him up on imdb the other day & was pleased to see he was in an episode of Jason King. It’s aged terribly but is quite funny. Their depiction of the Police computer system of 1971 is quite advanced. Lots of R2R. Also an amusing car chase featuring a wallowing Ford Zodiac. I had one when I was about 19.

My relative played the part of Lemmy, one of the villains in it.

He’s also in this British crime thriller with Peter Cushing from 1961 which I haven’t watched yet.

I’d forgotten he was also in Coronation St for a while.

Ooof.

Back tomorrow and primed for the last episode. My worst fear… is that it’s not about the worst fear?

We shall see.

There was woe, there was malice, there was frolic and there was dread.

Just got back from watching Mickey 17

Bloody brilliant. If Mark Ruffalo doesn’t get an Oscar it’s because Trump has had the secret police cart him off in the night never to be seen again.

Quite fancy that, might try and catch it one evening this week.
