What I'm watching (Series 2)

Netflix is shit but has a fair amount of it to choose from. Apple has a few decent series but after that its got a smaller selection of shit. I’d recommend jumping on an offer for a couple of months, watching stuff like Slow Horses, Severance etc and then cancelling.

That’s the plan :+1:

Loads of free offers for Apple. Especially if you have ever signed up for one of their products.

Worth a look. Then smash and run.

A couple of things of note this week.

The Fantastic Four, First Steps. I’m not really given to any sort of MCU / Super Hero nonsense but this was quite amusing in its own way. I liked the 1960’s themed world it was set in. Some great props too including a couple of nice turntables. Also, their costumes looked to be knitted which lent a strange period authenticity to it!

Tonight we went to see Inter Alia, another National Theatre Live (broadcast) production from the same writer that created Prima Facie a couple of years ago. Rosamund Pike is amazing as a fearsome lady Judge who runs into domestic problems with her barrister husband & teenage son. If it’s being shown anywhere near you or you’ve got the NT app, I’d wholeheartedly recommend it. An hour & 40 of theatre at full intensity. Would love to have seen it performed live.

Finished off S2 of Raised by Wolves which was pleasantly insane from start to finish and obviously unexpectedly killed off as the ending was just a segue into a non-existent third series.

Watching a bit of S1 Star Trek: Strange New Worlds now.

I can see why there is a mix of reviews, for all the apparent depth to the politics and the layers to some of the characters (and also as much as Henry is a very well played villain), Emma and Edward are one dimensional pantomime baddies. Got through 3 episodes so far and I will keep going.

While it may have deviated from the facts (particularly the timeline) the history I came away with at the end does pretty much seem to reflect what was supposed to have happened. And it is a drama rather than a documentary. Overall we enjoyed it. It also made me look into what became of Harold (apparently hacked to death by William & 3 others) head & arm removed, remains possibly buried at Bosham along with a couple of sons not shown in the TV show but present & killed at the battle. The Alfred → Harold history is interesting too with the various Danish interventions.

Been grabbing some old series I used to love as a kid and managed to find Logan’s Run. The film is on TV fairly often but the series has eluded me until recently.

Quite entertaining, if rather wooden and contrived in places.
