Just booked The Odyssey on 70mm true IMAX - Printworks in Manchester.
It HAS to be the only way to see this, given every single moment is on the format. Only true IMAX outside London.
Early (pre) reviews suggest it won’t disappoint.

S1 is the trickiest, IMHO. It lifts off and then some in S2, leaving the dominant shouty stuff behind, save for 1 bonkers episode

Now watching The Bear after your recommendations. Couple of episodes in and enjoying it.
The short episode runtime is an underrated draw.

Looking forward to the Odyssey on iMax tomorrow. Was surprised to learn Plymouth’s Cineworld has the 3rd tallest screen in the UK. Without seeing any reviews I’ve been trying to swot up on the story so I’ve some idea what’s going on. I think we did segments of it in Latin lessons at school but that was 50 years ago.

The Odyssey. A full scale epic adventure, spectacular in its ambition & execution. Also teaches a few lessons about the treachery, futility and human cost of war. Refreshingly lacking in cgi with a thunderous soundtrack I guess it’s well worth seeing in iMax if you can. Spendy though, 2 tickets came to £37 but the cinema was pretty full for a Wednesday morning screening.
The cast did well. I don’t think Odysseus is as likeable a character as say Russell Crowe’s in Gladiator but Matt Damon does a pretty good job with him. Charlize Theron too as the nymph, Calypso. It does pack an emotional punch & I’m sure will be up for many Oscars come the Spring.

Off to the IMAX in Manchester next week. Relieved the reviews live up to the expectation.
Last film I saw there was Oppenheimer, and it packs a punch to see it on correct aspect ratio on a huge screen.

Yes, Oppenheimer & the two Dune films are the only recent iMax outings I’ve had before today’s.
Unsurprisingly the IMAX at Waterloo is making hay while the sun shines. Niece #1 and her boyfriend are going to a showing at something like 4am.
This is where it fell down for Stronzi, an Amazon that positively encourages mind gardening dumped in favour of some planks of wood - Left such a terrible taste in Stronzi’s mouth he actually tried brushing his teeth - I think the minty freshness really fucked him up he’s been under a Hawthorne bush all week.
