Oh great it’s on Prime! Been meaning to watch this. Wonder if I’ll spot myself! I bet a lot of folks are wondering/have seen themselves. I’m fascinated there’s enough footage to make it work, being pre-smartphone era.
I’d seen scraps of footage here and there before but it hangs together well, I’m quite amazed at what they turned up - The system / tent at Glastonbury 1990 made me smile, I remember the horse on the dacefloor! Lots of old faces and places but thankfully I’m not in it which can only be a good thing.
We really should count our blessings.
Some decent stuff from 9.10pm tonight on BBC 4
Quite possibly the worst film ever made, weirdly I’m still watching it in some sort of weird disbelief that it’s truly this fucking awful
Told you.
Animals - Netflix
Stressy. Ludicrous. Stressy. Awful. Stressy. The ending?! Felt like they made it up as they filmed it. Absolutely as bad as it gets. Even the necklace continuity error was as bad as it gets…
Something on Prime with Russel Crowe (phoned it in, still the best thing in it). Forgot the title. Aaron Paul was so bad he should have been in Animals. Marginally better than shite.
The sort of gubbins reserved for a crap tv in a holiday cabin.
We’re 5 parts into this and it’s been excellent so far. I’d never read the book so didn’t really know what it was about. Set in the US, initially in Connecticut in the late 1800’s but moving quickly to California in the early 20th Century. It’s a powerful story about a family being ripped apart by a particularly driven, scheming & malevolent woman seeking independence & control.
Really well written & well told. Wholehearted recommendation.
We originally went to see this in the cinema when it came out.
In the Curzon Mayfair and we ended up sitting next to a terrifically posh elderly lady who definitely wouldn’t see 80 again.
She was evidently well into it given that towards the end of one of the big fight scenes she jumped to her feet, pointed at the screen and shouted JUST KILL HIM ![]()
Any good?
Yeah, I enjoyed it, bit tongue in cheek and not too serious so good brain switch off stuff.
Pauline Black: A 2-Tone Story on Sky Arts. Really well crafted documentary that brought back lots of memories. Highly recommended.
Enjoyed that. If i ever found myself thinking stuff like this couldn’t happen, i just pinch myself and remember it actually is ![]()
Any good?
I enjoyed it. It’s an updated remake for the social media age.
Pressure
Film telling the true story of Dr James Stagg an RAF meteorologist who gets summoned to assist Eisenhower in deciding whether it’s safe to go ahead with the planned D-Day landings. Eisenhower, Montgomery et al want to go ahead on a pre determined date but Stagg forsees the possibility of a storm (several storms) compromising the landings and, despite being heavily leaned on, refuses to approve the timing.
This is a much better film than I was expecting. It does generate genuine tension and has good performances from Andrew Scott, Brendan Fraser and Damien Lewis amongst others.
Worth a look.
